Seedance, Dreamina, Jimeng (即梦), Doubao: One Model, Four Names

Seedance is the model; Jimeng (即梦), Dreamina and Doubao (豆包) are ByteDance apps and storefronts that run it. ByteDance’s Seed team builds the Seedance video models. Jimeng AI is the China-market creative app where Seedance 2.0 launched on 2026-02-12. Dreamina is the international creative app at dreamina.capcut.com, and it labels the same models “Dreamina Seedance”. Doubao is ByteDance’s China-market AI assistant, which also carries Seedance 2.0, and it doubles as the prefix on the China-side API catalog, where the model is listed as “Doubao-Seedance-2.0”. Every claim on this page was checked against ByteDance’s own pages on 2026-10-08 unless another date is given.

So when someone searches “seedance 2.0 即梦” or “即梦 seedance 2.0”, they are looking for the same thing an English speaker means by “Seedance 2.0 on Dreamina”: one model line, reached through a different front door. The Four Names at a Glance

The confusion has a simple cause. ByteDance names the model once and then lets each product that carries it add its own label. Here is what each name refers to, according to the pages we read on 2026-10-08.

Two more names sit around the edges and cause their own share of searches:

• Volcano Engine (火山引擎) and BytePlus are ByteDance’s cloud platforms, China-side and international respectively. Developers reach Seedance there, through the Ark and ModelArk model services.
• Dola is the ByteDance assistant that the English Seedance 2.0 model page links to with its “Try Dola” button (checked 2026-10-08). It is not a renamed Seedance, and we found no Seedance mention in its page description.

The rest of this page goes through each name in turn, with the evidence behind it.

Seedance: The Model, Not an App

“Seedance” names a model family, not a website or an app you download. Its home is seed.bytedance.com, the site of ByteDance’s Seed research organisation. The Seedance 2.0 page there is titled simply “Seedance 2.0” and carries the footer “Copyright© 2026 Bytedance Seed” (checked 2026-10-08). ByteDance’s English blog post “Seedance 2.0 Official Launch” is dated 2026-02-12. The next version followed with “One-take Creation, Flexible Referencing: Introducing Seedance 2.5”, dated 2026-07-31.

What the model page does not do is give you a generator. On 2026-10-08 the English Seedance 2.0 page offered two buttons: “Try Dola”, linking to www.dola.com/chat/, and “Try in Playground”, linking to BytePlus’s AI playground at ai.byteplus.com. Neither of those is Dreamina. That surprises people who expect the model page to point straight at the consumer app most English-language users end up in.

Three neighbouring names on the same site get mixed up with Seedance:

• Seed is the research team, and also the name of ByteDance’s general-purpose language models. ByteDance’s post “Seed 2.0 Official Launch” is about those LLMs, not video. If you landed on “Seed 2.0” while looking for “Seedance 2.0”, you are one word off.
• Seedream is the sibling image model. Dreamina’s homepage on 2026-10-08 described itself as bringing “advanced AI models—like Seedance 2.0 for video, Seedream 5.0 Lite for high‑quality images, and Nano Banana Pro for enhanced creativity” together in one app. Seedream makes stills and Seedance makes video.
• Seedance 2.0 Fast and Mini are lighter tiers of the same 2.0 generation, not separate model families. Our version timeline tracks which tiers and versions exist and where each one is live.

If you remember one rule, make it this: a name with “Seed” in it is a model or the team that makes models, and a name without “Seed” is a product that runs them.

Jimeng (即梦): Where Seedance 2.0 Launched

Jimeng AI is ByteDance’s China-market creative app. Its site at jimeng.jianying.com loaded on 2026-10-08 under the title “即梦AI - 即刻造梦”, which translates roughly as “Jimeng AI: make your dreams instantly”. Its meta description calls it a one-stop intelligent creation platform offering AI painting and AIGC video creation. 即梦 (jímèng) is just the app’s Chinese name, and “Jimeng” is its romanisation. They are the same product.

The clearest statement of how Jimeng relates to Seedance comes from ByteDance itself. The Chinese version of the Seedance 2.0 launch post, “Seedance 2.0 正式发布”, dated 2026-02-12, says:

目前，Seedance 2.0 已上线即梦AI、豆包等平台，欢迎体验和反馈。

In English: “Seedance 2.0 is now live on Jimeng AI, Doubao and other platforms; you are welcome to try it and give feedback.” The same post then lists three ways in, numbered in the original:

1. “1）即梦网页端-视频生成-选择 Seedance 2.0；”: Jimeng web app, then video generation, then select Seedance 2.0.
2. “2）豆包 App 对话框-Seedance2.0-选择 2.0 模型；”: the Doubao app’s chat box, then Seedance 2.0, then select the 2.0 model.
3. “3）火山方舟体验中心-选择 Doubao-Seedance-2.0。”: the Volcano Engine Ark experience centre, then select Doubao-Seedance-2.0.

We read all three lines on the live page on 2026-10-08. Note what is missing: the Chinese launch post names no international app. Dreamina came into the story through its own product pages, not through this announcement.

The pattern held for the next version. ByteDance’s Seedance 2.5 post, dated 2026-07-31, says: “Today, Seedance 2.5 is rolling out on Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro, and other platforms, with API access coming soon via BytePlus ModelArk.” It gives the path “Jimeng Web -> Video Generation -> Select Seedance 2.5”. Jimeng is where ByteDance announces first.

Who runs Jimeng is printed in its footer. On 2026-10-08 the page named 深圳市脸萌科技有限公司 (Shenzhen Lianmeng Technology Co., Ltd.) with ICP filing 粤ICP备13065114号-22. The same company is listed as developer on jianying.com, the site of Jianying (剪映), ByteDance’s China-market video editor. That is why Jimeng lives on a jianying.com subdomain. Our access guide adds that Xiao Yunque at xyq.jianying.com shares the same operator and filing, which makes it a third China-domestic front end.

On 2026-10-08 Jimeng’s homepage itself did not mention Seedance anywhere in its served HTML. The model choice appears inside the video generation tool, which is how ByteDance’s post describes it.

Dreamina: The International Name for the Same Models

Dreamina is the app most English-speaking Seedance users actually open. It runs at dreamina.capcut.com, under CapCut’s domain. Its homepage meta description on 2026-10-08 read: “Create AI video, image, and short drama with Dreamina for ads, social content, product visuals, and visual storytelling. Powered by leading AI models including Seedream, Seedance, GPT Image, Sora, and more.”

Two things in that sentence matter for the naming question. First, Dreamina describes itself as a platform powered by models, Seedance among them, not as the model. Second, it carries models from other companies too. Dreamina is a storefront, and Seedance is one of the products on its shelf.

Dreamina puts its own name in front of the model. On our 2026-08-01 check its picker listed “Dreamina Seedance 2.0”, “Dreamina Seedance 2.0 Fast” and “Dreamina Seedance 2.0 Mini”, as recorded in our version timeline. The dedicated tool page at dreamina.capcut.com/tools/seedance-2-0 described itself on 2026-10-08 as letting you “Create high-quality videos with official Seedance 2.0”. So “Dreamina Seedance 2.0” and “Seedance 2.0” are the same model line, and the prefix tells you whose storefront you are in.

Is Dreamina the international version of Jimeng? Functionally, yes. Both are ByteDance creative apps for images and video that carry the same Seed models, one aimed at China and one at everyone else, and the domains mirror each other: Jimeng sits under jianying.com, Dreamina under capcut.com. ByteDance runs them as separate products from separate entities, though. Dreamina’s parent domain capcut.com showed the public whois registrant Bytedance Pte. Ltd. in Singapore when we checked it for our official-site-vs-clones guide on 2026-08-12. Jimeng’s footer names a Shenzhen company. In practice that means:

• Separate accounts. A Jimeng account is not a Dreamina account, and credits do not move between them.
• Separate prices and credit rules. Jimeng sells in its own market. For Dreamina’s credit costs, use our pricing review rather than anything quoted for Jimeng.
• Separate rollout timing. Seedance 2.5 shows how this works. ByteDance’s post named Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro on launch day. Dreamina’s own launch page, dated the same day, said the model “will start rolling out in the coming week for subscriber accounts” in named regions (read 2026-08-03, as our access guide records). The same model can therefore be live under one name and still on its way under another.

None of this makes one of them the “real” Seedance. Both are official ByteDance surfaces. They are aimed at different markets.

Doubao (豆包): The Chatbot and the Model Prefix

Doubao causes the most confusion, because ByteDance uses the name in two different ways.

Doubao, the app. Doubao is ByteDance’s China-market AI assistant. Our official-site-vs-clones guide recorded its page title on 2026-08-12 as “豆包 - 字节跳动旗下 AI 智能助手” (“Doubao — an AI assistant under ByteDance”). On 2026-10-08 the meta description of www.doubao.com opened with “Seedance 2.0 视频生成模型现已全面接入豆包，现在登录即可免费使用！”, which translates as “The Seedance 2.0 video generation model is now fully integrated into Doubao; log in now to use it for free.” We are quoting Doubao’s own claim there; we have not checked its free allowance from outside China. ByteDance’s launch post confirms the route from inside the app: open the chat box, pick Seedance 2.0, choose the 2.0 model. For Seedance 2.5, ByteDance’s post names “Doubao Pro” specifically.

So in Doubao the model arrives through a chat assistant, while Jimeng and Dreamina offer it as a dedicated creation tool.

Doubao, the model prefix. On Volcano Engine (火山引擎), ByteDance’s China-side cloud, the Ark model service puts “Doubao” in front of ByteDance’s own models. ByteDance’s Chinese launch post sends developers to the Ark experience centre to “选择 Doubao-Seedance-2.0” (select Doubao-Seedance-2.0). Volcano Engine’s Seedance 2.0 promotion page, which ran from 2026-08-07 to 2026-10-07, listed tiers named “Doubao-Seedance-2.0-mini” and “Doubao-Seedance-2.0-fast” (read 2026-10-08). In API terms, “Doubao-Seedance” is simply the China-side catalog name for Seedance.

Doubao and Dola. The international counterpart of the Doubao assistant is a different app with a different name. The English Seedance 2.0 page’s “Try Dola” button points to www.dola.com/chat/, and Dola’s own meta description on 2026-10-08 called it “your AI chat assistant for intelligent conversations, writing, translation and programming”. Third-party write-ups describe Dola as the overseas ByteDance assistant formerly called Cici; we have not found a ByteDance page stating that history. Dola’s page description did not mention Seedance on our check, so we are not claiming it generates Seedance video.

The Developer Names: Doubao-Seedance and Dreamina Seedance

The API side repeats the consumer split, with one prefix per cloud.

Internationally the model therefore carries the Dreamina prefix even when there is no Dreamina app involved: a developer calling BytePlus is not using the Dreamina web app, yet the model ID still begins with dreamina-seedance. In China the same family carries the Doubao prefix. The trailing number on a BytePlus ID such as 260128 reads as a two-digit-year date stamp, so the Mini’s 260615 marks a later build than the mainline 2.0. BytePlus does not spell out the convention on the pages we cite, so treat it as a version marker rather than a launch date: the public 2.0 launch post is dated 2026-02-12.

Older generations appear without a storefront prefix, for example seedance-1-5-pro-251215 and seedance-1-0-pro-250528, as our API guide records. The Dreamina prefix arrived with the 2.0 series. If you see a third-party API listing called “Seedance 2.0”, “Dreamina Seedance 2.0” or “Doubao Seedance 2.0”, it is probably reselling the same 2.0 line under whichever upstream name it used. Reading the Chinese Search Terms

A good share of searches for this topic are typed partly in Chinese, even from US users. Here is what each common query is asking.

The space inside “字 节” or “即 梦” in some of these queries is a typing artefact from mixed-language input and changes nothing about the meaning.

Which Name Should You Look For?

The name you need depends on who you are and what you want to do.

• You are outside China and want to make videos in a browser or on your phone: look for Dreamina. It is the ByteDance app built for international users, it labels the model “Dreamina Seedance 2.0”, and it is where our pricing and how-to guides are written from. • You have a Chinese phone number and use ByteDance’s domestic apps: Jimeng AI is the dedicated creation tool, and the Doubao app gets you Seedance from inside a chat assistant. ByteDance announces new versions there first, as the 2.0 and 2.5 posts show.
• You are a developer outside China: look for BytePlus ModelArk and model IDs beginning with dreamina-seedance. Our API guide has the current IDs and parameters.
• You are a developer with a China-side cloud account: look for Volcano Engine Ark and model names beginning with “Doubao-Seedance”.
• You found a site simply called “Seedance” with a generator and a price list: that is not one of the names on this page. When we checked Bytedance Pte. Ltd.’s Google Play developer page on 2026-08-12, none of its six apps was called Seedance, so check it against our official-site-vs-clones guide before you pay.

Whichever front door you use, the model underneath is the same Seed-built family. What changes between doors is the account, the price, the tier lineup and the date a new version reaches you. FAQ

Is Jimeng (即梦) the same as Seedance? No. Seedance is the model and Jimeng AI is an app that runs it. ByteDance’s Chinese launch post, dated 2026-02-12, says Seedance 2.0 “已上线即梦AI、豆包等平台”, meaning it is live on Jimeng AI, Doubao and other platforms.

Is Dreamina the international version of Jimeng? In practice, yes. Both are ByteDance creative apps carrying the same Seedance and Seedream models, Jimeng for China and Dreamina for international users. They are run by different ByteDance entities, and accounts, credits and prices are separate.

Why is Seedance called Doubao-Seedance? Doubao is the brand on ByteDance’s China-side model catalog on Volcano Engine Ark, so the video model appears there as Doubao-Seedance-2.0. Internationally, BytePlus ModelArk sells the same family as Dreamina Seedance 2.0.

What does “seedance 字节” mean? 字节 is everyday shorthand for ByteDance (字节跳动). The query asks whether Seedance is ByteDance’s model, and it is. The model pages live on seed.bytedance.com.

Which app should I use to get Seedance outside China? Dreamina at dreamina.capcut.com is ByteDance’s consumer app for international users. Developers use BytePlus ModelArk.
