Seedance Version Timeline 2026: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 & the 3.0 Question

As of August 1, 2026, six Seedance models across three version lines are reachable through ByteDance’s own surfaces: Seedance 1.0 Pro and 1.0 Pro Fast, Seedance 1.5 Pro, and the Seedance 2.0 family (mainline, Fast, Mini). Seedance 2.5 was officially launched on July 31, 2026 — it now has its own page on ByteDance’s Seed site and a card in the Seed model list — but it is still absent from the BytePlus ModelArk model list and pricing page, so there is no callable international API model ID for it yet. And there is no official information about Seedance 3.0 — none, of any kind, as of this date. No Seedance version carries a deprecation notice either; versions vanish quietly from consumer surfaces instead of being retired on the record.

Everything below is a status check, not a spec sheet. Every row is tied to a page you can open yourself, and where a date cannot be sourced from an official page, we say so rather than borrowing one.

The Version Table (data checked 2026-08-01)

Three official surfaces expose different subsets of the lineup, which is the single biggest reason people arrive at contradictory answers about what exists:

Sources for the whole table: the ByteDance Seed model page at seed.bytedance.com/en/models, the BytePlus ModelArk model list and the pricing page — the Seed model page and the ModelArk model list re-read on 2026-08-01, the pricing page on 2026-07-31, and all three are pages you can open yourself.

One caveat about the Dreamina column specifically: the picker rows are read from the model list the web app loads in the browser at dreamina.capcut.com/ai-tool/home on 2026-07-31, which is not a citable static page — you can reproduce it by opening the picker, but you cannot link someone to a fixed URL that shows it. Where a claim in that column can be tied to a public page instead, we use the public page: the 2.5 cell is sourced from the official Seedance 2.5 product page, re-read on 2026-08-01. We have not re-opened the in-app picker since 2026-07-31, so the 2.5 cell reports what that public page states, not a verified picker entry.

Two deliberate omissions in that table. Per-tier prices belong in our Seedance 2.0 Mini breakdown, which covers what each 2.0 tier costs and gives up; exact API model ID strings belong in our Seedance API guide, which keeps the full ID table current. This page tracks one thing only: whether a version exists and where.

“Seedance 1.5 Not Available” — What’s Actually Going On

Seedance 1.5 Pro is not deprecated, not paused, and not region-locked out of existence. It is present on all three official surfaces we checked on 2026-07-31:

• ByteDance’s own model page lists it as “Seedance 1.5 pro”, described there as “A joint audio-video model that accurately follows complex instructions.”
• The Dreamina web app’s model picker contains “Dreamina Seedance 1.5 Pro”, with the model tip “Generates videos with synced, natural sound.”
• BytePlus ModelArk lists it with active rate limits and its own pricing section, priced separately for audio and silent output. (Per-account rate limit numbers live in our Seedance API guide; what matters here is that the limits are active, which means the model is being served.)

So when a “Seedance 1.5 not available” message or a missing dropdown entry shows up, the useful question is not was it removed but which surface am I on. The three surfaces genuinely differ, and one of them differs by geography: the abstract ByteDance publishes for its Seedance 1.5 Pro research paper ends with the sentence “Seedance 1.5 pro is now accessible on Volcano Engine.” Volcano Engine is ByteDance’s China-facing cloud; BytePlus ModelArk is the international one. Same model, two clouds, separate onboarding.

Third-party wrappers add a fourth layer of confusion. An aggregator can label a button “Seedance 1.5” while calling something else underneath, or keep a 1.5 page online months after dropping the route. If a platform that is not Dreamina, Volcano Engine or BytePlus tells you 1.5 is unavailable, that is a statement about that platform, not about the model.

One limit on this check, stated plainly: we read ByteDance’s international surfaces — the Seed model page, the Dreamina web app and BytePlus ModelArk. We did not read the Volcano Engine console’s model list, which requires a China-cloud account, so every row in the table above describes international availability. A version listed as absent there may still be served on Volcano Engine.

Seedance 1.0: Alive on the API, Half-Retired in the App

Seedance 1.0 is the version most likely to be described as dead and most likely to still be running your job.

On the API side it is unambiguously live. The BytePlus model list carries two Seedance 1.0 Pro entries — a standard and a fast variant — each with active rate limits, and the pricing page has separate live sections headed “Seedance 1.0 Pro” and “Seedance 1.0 Pro Fast” (checked 2026-07-31). ByteDance’s model page describes the line as “A multi-tasking video generation model that excels at multi-shot narratives, semantic understanding, and prompt following.”

On the consumer side it has been trimmed. The Dreamina picker contains exactly one 1.0-era option, “Dreamina Seedance 1.0 Fast” (“Film-level performance, faster and more credit-efficient”), and it is the only Seedance entry in the picker without a “new” badge. There is no plain “Seedance 1.0” and no “1.0 Pro” for web-app users. If you want the 1.0 Pro behaviour today, the API is the route.

Seedance 1.0 Lite: The One Version That Really Did Disappear

“Seedance Lite” is the version people search for and cannot find, and here the answer is genuinely negative rather than a surface mismatch.

As of 2026-07-31, Seedance Lite appears on none of ByteDance’s official English-language surfaces: not on the Seed model page, not in the Dreamina picker, not in the BytePlus model list, and not in the BytePlus pricing tables. There is one archaeological trace: the BytePlus documentation tree still contains a document entry titled seedance-1.0-lite, and the page returned no documentation body when we opened it on 2026-07-31. BytePlus docs render their body content dynamically, so treat that empty page as suggestive rather than conclusive — the finding above rests on Lite’s absence from the four current official lists, not on this one URL.

What keeps the name in circulation is the resale layer. Third-party API marketplaces that mirrored ByteDance models during the 1.0 generation still host Lite endpoints — Segmind, for example, still served a “Seedance 1.0 lite t2v” model page when we checked on 2026-07-31. Those routes may keep working, but they are third-party listings, and nothing on an official ByteDance page currently supports treating Lite as a maintained model. Plan around Seedance 2.0 Mini instead if what you wanted from Lite was the cheap, fast tier.

Seedance 2.0: The Current Flagship, in Three Tiers

Seedance 2.0 is where the lineup’s centre of gravity sits. The BytePlus model list labels the family “Dreamina Seedance 2.0 — Mainline video generation model”, with the description “High-fidelity audio–visual synchronization, high motion quality and emotional expression.” ByteDance’s Seed model page describes 2.0 as adopting “a unified multimodal audio-video joint generation architecture that supports text, image, audio, and video inputs, leading to the most comprehensive multimodal content reference and editing capabilities in the industry.”

All three tiers are live on both the app and the API side on 2026-07-31. Their Dreamina model tips are a compact statement of what separates them:

Note the constraint repeated across all three: real human faces are not supported. That is a current, official, app-level statement, not a rumour.

One capability change worth knowing when you read older material: Seedance 2.0 was upgraded to native 4K output at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference on June 23, 2026, per reporting from The Decoder and TechTimes — third-party coverage, which is what our Seedance 2.5 briefing tracks in detail. On the API side the 4K ceiling is confirmed on the mainline 2.0 model only; Fast and Mini top out lower. For subjective quality rather than availability, our Seedance 2.0 review is the honest pros-and-cons read.

Seedance 2.5: Officially Launched July 31, 2026 — but Not Yet on the International API

This is the gap that produces the most wrong answers on the open web, so it is worth stating flatly.

ByteDance officially launched Seedance 2.5 on July 31, 2026. The launch post, “One-take Creation, Flexible Referencing: Introducing Seedance 2.5”, is dated Jul 31, 2026 on the Seed blog index at seed.bytedance.com/en/blog, and TechNode published same-day coverage on July 31, 2026. That supersedes the position this page held through July, when 2.5 was announced but undocumented. Here is what each surface shows on 2026-08-01:

• seed.bytedance.com/en/models now lists a “Seedance 2.5” card, described there as “A new-generation video creation model built for 30-second storytelling with precise reference control and powerful editing capabilities.”
• The dedicated page at seed.bytedance.com/en/seedance2_5 states, verbatim, that the model can “Create videos up to 30 seconds in a single generation, with the option to extend twice for richer, more complete storytelling”, and that it “Provides advanced capabilities such as white-model control and green-screen editing, combined with professional camera movement and performance blocking.” That page specifies no resolution and no pricing.
• The BytePlus ModelArk model list still contains no Seedance 2.5 entry (checked 2026-08-01), and the BytePlus pricing page carried no 2.5 rate card on our 2026-07-31 read.
• The official Dreamina product page now carries the banner “New model LIVE: Dreamina Seedance 2.5 is now available” (checked 2026-08-01), replacing the “Seedance 2.5 is coming soon!” wording it showed through July 31.

So the split as of today is consumer-side open, developer-side not. TechNode’s July 31, 2026 report describes the model as rolling out to Jimeng AI and the Pro version of Doubao, with an API “expected to arrive soon” on Volcano Engine’s Ark platform — the international BytePlus route is not open on the docs we can read.

The practical read has narrowed but not vanished: if a platform is selling you “Seedance 2.5 API access” today, ask which model ID it calls, because ByteDance has still not published one on its international surfaces. Consumer access through ByteDance’s own apps is a different question, and that one is now open. Our API guide tracks the model-ID side.

Seedance 3.0: There Is No Official Information

As of 2026-07-31, ByteDance has published nothing about Seedance 3.0. Not a release date, not a feature list, not a parameter count, not a teaser.

That is the whole finding, and we are not going to dress it up. We checked the ByteDance Seed model page, the Seed blog index, the BytePlus ModelArk model list, the BytePlus pricing page and the Dreamina product pages. The string “Seedance 3.0” appears on none of them. A web search for an official 3.0 announcement returns only coverage of Seedance 2.5 and the June 2026 FORCE announcements.

This matters because the version-history slot in search results is currently occupied by pages that fill the vacuum. Some publish 3.0 feature tables. Some publish 3.0 release windows. Some list versions that have never existed at all. There is no official source behind any of it, and the same applies to “Seedance 4.0”, which people also search for. If you are planning work around a future model, the only defensible assumption today is that Seedance 2.5, launched on July 31, 2026, is the newest model that actually exists — and even 2.5 has no published API model ID yet.

When ByteDance publishes something about 3.0, this page gets a dated row. Until then the row stays empty on purpose.

Release Dates: What Can and Cannot Be Sourced

The most-searched date question is “Seedance 2.0 release date”, and it deserves an honest answer about sourcing rather than a confident number.

Official dates exist, but only on the blog index — not on the model or product pages. The Seedance entries on ByteDance’s model page still carry no release date, no changelog and no status label, and the dedicated seed.bytedance.com/en/seedance2_5 page displays no date either. The Seed blog index at seed.bytedance.com/en/blog is the one official surface that does date things: on 2026-08-01 it showed “Jul 31, 2026” against the Seedance 2.5 launch post, “Jul 20, 2026” against Seed Audio 1.0 and “Jul 8, 2026” against Seedream 5.0 Pro. Because our earlier reads of this site’s date fields came back inconsistent across sessions, we only quote a date from it after cross-checking it against the detail page and same-day third-party coverage — which is how the July 31, 2026 date above was confirmed.

Third-party dates exist and partially disagree. The Wikipedia article on Seedance 2.0 states “Seedance was first released in June 2025”, “Seedance 2.0 was released in February 2026”, and “In July 2026, Bytedance released Seedance 2.5”. That last one now matches the primary surfaces: 2.5 was previewed at the FORCE conference in June 2026 and officially launched on July 31, 2026 per ByteDance’s own dated blog index. Treat the June 2025 and February 2026 dates as third-party encyclopedia entries, useful for orientation and not for contracts.

The API IDs carry snapshot suffixes. BytePlus model IDs end in a six-digit code — 250528 for Seedance 1.0 Pro, 251015 for 1.0 Pro Fast, 251215 for 1.5 Pro, 260128 for the 2.0 mainline and Fast, 260615 for Mini. These read as dates and are how BytePlus distinguishes model snapshots, but BytePlus does not label them as launch dates, and we are not presenting them as such. What “Deprecated” Actually Means Here

There is no public Seedance deprecation register. When we read the BytePlus model list and pricing page on 2026-07-31, not one Seedance entry carried a retirement notice, an end-of-life date or a migration warning. Everything listed is billable; nothing listed is flagged as going away.

What happens instead is silent removal from a surface. Seedance 1.0 Lite is the clearest example: no announcement, no sunset date, just absence from every current official list. Plain Seedance 1.0 is a softer version of the same pattern — still an API product, no longer a web-app option.

The operational takeaway for anyone building on this: presence in the BytePlus model list is the only availability signal ByteDance publishes, and absence from it is the only deprecation signal you will get. Check the list, not the marketing pages, and re-check it before you commit a pipeline to an older version.

FAQ

Why is Seedance 1.5 not available for me?

Seedance 1.5 Pro has not been retired. On 2026-07-31 it appears in the Dreamina model picker, on ByteDance’s Seed model page, and as a billable model on BytePlus ModelArk. A missing option is a property of the surface you are on — a third-party wrapper, a mobile app version, or the wrong cloud (Volcano Engine for China, BytePlus internationally) — not evidence that the model is gone.

Is there a Seedance 3.0?

No. There is no official ByteDance information about Seedance 3.0 as of 2026-07-31 — no date, no features, no specs. Pages presenting 3.0 details are not working from an official source.

Is Seedance 2.5 available yet?

On consumer surfaces, yes; on the international API, not yet. ByteDance published the official Seedance 2.5 launch post on its Seed blog on July 31, 2026, and the Dreamina product page now carries the banner “New model LIVE: Dreamina Seedance 2.5 is now available” (checked 2026-08-01). ByteDance’s own launch post says first-hand: “Today, Seedance 2.5 is rolling out on Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro, and other platforms, with API access coming soon via BytePlus ModelArk.” (read 2026-08-03); TechNode reported the same day that an API is “expected to arrive soon” on Volcano Engine’s Ark platform, the China-side cloud. On our 2026-08-01 check the BytePlus ModelArk model list still carries no Seedance 2.5 entry and no rate card.

Consumer access carries published conditions. ByteDance’s Dreamina launch page at dreamina.capcut.com/resource/seedance-2-5-launch (page date Jul 31, 2026; read 2026-08-03) states, verbatim: “Dreamina Seedance 2.5 will start rolling out in the coming week for subscriber accounts belonging to people over 16 years old across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America.” A subscriber account, an age of over 16, and one of those four named regions, with rollout phased from “the coming week” as announced on July 31, 2026. North America is not among the four regions that page names; ByteDance did not write that North America is excluded, only that it is not on the list.

Is Seedance 1.0 still usable?

Yes, through the API: two Seedance 1.0 Pro variants remain listed with active rate limits and pricing. In the Dreamina web app, the only 1.0-era option is “Dreamina Seedance 1.0 Fast”.

What happened to Seedance Lite?

It is absent from every official English-language surface as of 2026-07-31 — not on the Seed model page, not in the Dreamina picker, not in the BytePlus model list, and not in the BytePlus pricing tables. Some third-party API marketplaces still host Lite endpoints. Seedance 2.0 Mini is the current cheap-and-fast tier.

Which version should I build on today?

The Seedance 2.0 mainline model, unless you specifically need 1.5 Pro’s audio behaviour or 1.0’s pricing. It is the version ByteDance labels as its mainline video model, the only one with 4K on the API, and the one all three official surfaces agree on.
